Food Tubes

Treats are placed inside PVC tube.  Apes must use a stick tool to slide treats to either side to obtain treat.

Treat Tube Back

Supplies (makes 1 tube)-

  • 1- 4” diameter PVC tube- 4ft in length
  • 2 large carabineers or quick links
  • 2 pieces of heavy chain- 1ft in length
  • Hacksaw & Drill (¼”, ½”, & ¾” bits)

Instructions:

Using hacksaw cut a square opening on each end of PVC tube (should face same direction).  Next, drill large holes (¾” dia.) into PVC tube from one square opening to the other.  Space apart, about 6 holes should be enough.  It is easier to drill holes if you start with small drill bit (¼”) and get bigger (½”, then ¾”).  Drill two more holes on top on either side- large enough to fit chain through and attach with carabineers.  One square opening cut in the back (behind holes) will allow you to refill tube while in use (optional).

To Use:

Place treats in middle of tube.  “Rolly” treats (grapes, berries, etc.) work the best.  Hang tube on outside of enclosure.  Provide apes with browse to use as tools.
